Hello from the US!
I'm an Alvey newbie who just dropped in with a few questions. I recently picked up a model 40-C1 on ebay - just showed up today. Reel appears to be in very good shape - clean, well-oiled, no nicks or obvious rash on the spool or steel back. My problem is that it's set up for right-hand retrieve and I'd like to swap it to left. Judging from what I'm seeing (drag pawl, alarm and side cast lever) this may not be possible.
Can anyone offer any advice here? I'll need to replace with a new model prior to my surf trip this summer if I can't swap the direction.
Tight lines and cheers!
Brian

kype and welome, My first thought was to cut and swap hands, but that would probably take too long. I found this advice and not sure if it's ok for your reel, but it might help any way. I have never had to do a conversion but I reckon it shouldn't be to hard. Might be just a flip and turn the internal ratchet . alveytv.com/video.php?video=0014

Hello from Oklahoma Kype, welcome to the forum. I am thinking on that one you will need a left hand plate and then rest of it should reverse . I bet you can cast it way it is. with a little practice beats having surgery

Thank you for all the advice!
It looks like I'd need a few different parts to make the swap.
As this is an old reel, I'll probably just order a new one with left hand retrieve and use this one as is.
Tight lines!
