Well, I finally ordered my first Alvey rod and reel on Friday. For anyone who is curious, Alvey USA is fantastc to do business with. Gene was courteous, accomodating, and shipped my order right out. Now the hard part, I must wait. Oh well, I suppose the fish won't care what rod/reel combo catches them.

Once, the fish said me they prefer Alveys. I guess I am going to fnd out next week if what you say is true. I am truly excited. I have not bought a new rod and reel in over ten years. If I end up loving the Alvey I may have to special order a direct wind model. I love the thought of my hand being the drag and having that 1 on 1 connection with the fish.

We had a problem with the reel. Someone at Alvey forgot to punch a rivet. The anti-reverse drag knob has a rivet stem to attached to the wheel that pushes the drag pawl on and off. Hopefully a good report soon with a replacement reel.

Every factory will make a mistake on occasion; at that point, it is up to customer service to make it right. If you have a problem with your Alvey, Gene at Alvey USA will make it right. Gene shipped out a new reel very quickly. Just try to get Shimano, Penn or Abu Garcia to do the same if you have a problem. Needless to say, I will continue to buy Alvey based on customer service alone. Well done Gene, long live Alvey!

I am thinking 600b, 625b, or 650b. Something about not even havimg drag as an option facinates me. Probably why traditional archery facinates me as well.
