Con is a new majority owner of Alvey Reels Australia. Hoping his plans succeed. From the Alvey Facebook post. How good is this! Con made a special visit to Tackle Land this morning to show us "The Alvey Beast" Not only are Alvey Reels Australia still here but they are raising the bar out of sight! We are proud to be the first to see a new prototype Alvey Reel which will knock your socks off. Can't tell you anymore at this stage but it has got us excited! So good to see this iconic brand going above and beyond!

Interesting
what are your 'unofficial' thoughts on this??
Is this good for Alvey or do you see it as Con gutting the Company and running??
This has happened to many Companies in various forms..

Con apparently made a significant financial investment in the belief that his marketing experience could turn the company around. I wish that I knew some details about the upcoming USA roll out. History leads one to believe that Alvey will always be a specialty product outside of Australia. Looking forward to the 100th anniversary in 2020.

It’s great to see the majority owner of Alvey on the road with car advertising showcasing a new prototype reel and meeting tackle shops.
My concern is the significant price increase of Alveys since he invested in Alvey. He is obviously looking for a return on his investment into Alvey, however I do fear that Alveys will too expensive for recreational fisherman compared to other major brands.
Also it’s harder to find Alvey reels from dealers as they don’t seem to be selling well enough for local tackle shops to keep stocking a range.
I’m still a loyal fan and user however new fisherman and women will unlikely be motivated to buy an Alvey if they are more expensive and harder to buy than other major brands.

Hello, I am new to the forum but not to Alvey Reels. My opinion is as long as their are very few Rods avalable Alvey Reels will become useless. Try and buy a low mount Rod very hard plenty of reels for sale but no Rods. A few Rod makers jumped.. ship when Alvey closed down. I have a reel 40 + years old as good as day one. I tried a good Tackle shop that sell a lot of Alvey types of reels in the hope of getting a Rod this was the response... a Alvey 500 Rod Anglers Warehouse (Anglers Warehouse) Jun 20, 8:37 AM AEST Hi Wally, No other brands we carry are made to suit an alvey reel. Maybe you could get the ROD500 7ft and cut the butt down a little to where you feel it would be ideal. Have a great day 😄 Kind Regards, Team AW Alvey response If you can get a rod suitable for the Alvey, low winch mount first runner about half way up the rod, you will get better casting. If fishing from a boat this is not such a concern. Time will tell.
The market has been " stocked up " since Alvey announced their problems a while back.
A lot of people bought reels to store for future and there has been a renewed collector interest in reels . Not only the very old ones but newer ones.
Yes rods for Alveys are now few and far between, however there is now a market for old restored rods. I envisage there will always be enough rods for every Alvey reel, just a little harder to find.
I wouldn't have a clue for the future but I would guess the range will be slashed, and production will be farmed out , maybe even offshore. Alvey will always be around but only in limited quantities.
Whilst here in Australia all "fishing" shows are sponsored by overseas manufactured reels, you hardly see a Alvey reel, this will move new fisherpeople to buy these overseas reels. Alvey will always be the only reel for the beach.
For the new investor, I would of thought I could of got better returns elsewhere. However with the factory sitting on prime real estate then time will tell.

New update by Bruce Alvey.
"Next week Alvey Reels starts trading as a new Company and is going to be trading only through Alvey Authorised Retailers. We want to service our angling customers the best way possible . We sincerely thank all our retailers who sold our reels in the past. However we have to try something different to ensure our future.
We at Alvey Reels pride ourselves on our professional and fair dealings with our people, retailers, and fishing community alike which has been a pillar to our 100 year heritage.
We invite any retailer who wishes to partake in our Alvey Authorised Retailer program which will lead us into our next 100 years, to register their interest and we will enter into fair discussions with a partnership approach. Regards Bruce Alvey."
