We at Alvey Reels have been designing and developing our new range of products for 12 months. The prototypes have exceeded expectations during testing and we will be launching them at the AFTA show in 2019, to complement our famous sidecast range. Watch this space as we release more information on these exciting products.

Seems spinning reels for me too. If they are Alveys, its a Paradigm's Brake for everybody.

Hard to imagine Alvey giving up and joining the crowd. If they do, the reel should at least be like the simple Van Steele reel with no bail mechanism. I am also seeing some side cast reel decoration to appeal to USA anglers.

As an Alvey follower and a fisherman with cabin fever due to lousy weather I have been watching the web a bit and came across Alveys display in Florida. And yes I saw the eggbeater and thought what the! The dark side?? Then I thought well I see a lot of photos with beach fishing cars loaded up with Alveys and often there in amongst the sidecasters is an eggbeater or two. Some folk like to mix a bit of lure spinning some folk like to use a bit of braid line. Wow if Alveys were to make a spinner with the long lasting quality and ability to handle sand saltwater etc. How good would that be? A spinner as tough as an Alvey now there is a challenge. In my fishing fraternity all levels of spinners are destroyed by hard use and environment but Alveys keep on going year after year. But even I can see a place for a spinner in some scenarios. Plus let's face it some folk just have not got the patience or the will to learn how to use an Alvey. If I can use one anyone can but still some are just not quite willing to try something different. It would never replace the sidecasters but it would be a handy addition to the quiver for some and it might just be the kicker Alvey need to get them right up there where they belong . It was certainly suggested by some Alvey fans when things were looking grim for the company. Just have to wait and see.Sure has got me wondering though! Cheers Baz

Bottom line, Alvey is trying to survive. Their new majority stock owner may have some ideas that work. Alvey will have survived 100 years in 2020.

Im not sure if many actually know this but Alvey have sold eggbeaters before,it was called the "Great White" and testing my memory a bit around mid 80ish.They were actually pretty good reels from the write ups at the time. I may have this wrong but am pretty sure its right.

Treble, I think you may be correct. Big White was a Shakespeare saltwater spinning reel that Alvey may have sold back in that time. They had a marketing arrangement with Shakespeare to sell rebranded Alvey reels in Great Britain. I remember being tempted for the Shakespeare but, already had a couple Alvey surf reels. My son is still fishing with this one and, the Len Butterworth rod. This is Alvey's problem, find new customers or tempting new models because, the reels lasts so long.

Maybe, still in side cast tradition, but with new improvements. Like Phoenix Grizzly models. Its a South African company that developed an interesting concept, its like a Grace & Young Orlando improved reel.

If my memory serves me correctly Alvey distributed Quantum spinners in Australia for a while. That was a long time ago. Bazza

Thats interesting Gene, there was a hand mad reel being made in Oz years ago seen on the beaches in Victoria. It had a large front splool on it, but it was made in a country town and had no advertising.
I saw it during a surf fishing contest and it was a solid performer.

Part of their new marketing approach is to give the old classics a simpler model name and to add more detail. Unfortunately, that also goes with a price increase. One can even get your name printed on it. On the plus side, the factory is now running full bore again and will last into their 100th year anniversary. That will, most likely, bring out some collectables.
