Hello all it has been a very long time since I last posted here, heck I don’t know if anyone still uses this forum. Anyway in case anyone is still out there, I took my Alvey 500c5 and 550 rod combo out this morning with my youngest son and went fishing. Today we were after channel catfish and were successful! For bait we used chicken hearts soaked in Nucmom ( Vietnamese fish sauce) and garlic. The rig I used was a snelled octopus hook, a couple feet of line a swivel a bead, a 1oz spoon weight, another bead and another swivel attached to the mainline. We caught many eating size catfish. No monster fish caught, but my son caught a 35-40lb snapping turtle which was certainly a monster. I love how easy the Alvey is to use. I always get curious fishermen wanting to know what the hell kind of reel I am using. It was just a nice morning to spend time with my son out on the water. Happy 4th of July to all.
