For those of you who do not follow the Alvey Facebook page, a Christmas report and wish from Bruce Alvey.
"Hi to all our Alvey supporters. I have to apologise in advance to some of you that have orders in the system ( of which there are thousands ) that may not get their reels before Christmas. Every day we are supplying quantities of reels to Retailers all around Australia, so some customers will be very excited to get their reels in time for the big day. Even with extra staff and massive increases in production we will not be able to make everone happy this Christmas. You, our loyal Alvey customers have saved the Company from closing and we are humbled by the sheer volume of support that has been given to us..
However the down side to this is we can not instantly produce large volumes of reels. From everyone at Alveys we want to thank you for saving our jobs and our Company. Your patience is being tested but I can assure you that manufacturing will continue at this level and even higher ( as long as we can maintain the quality you expect ) . The major aim is to satisfy you all as soon as we can. Our staff will be having a short break at Christmas as they have worked extremely hard and we will be back in partial production on the 2nd January and full production on the 8th January. Materials have been ordered now for this period as many suppliers will close till the 15th and we will be working before then. On behalf of our people here i would like to wish all of you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year. Regards Bruce Alvey."

For those may may be concerned, a February 2018 update:
"I was just asked are we still taking orders and the answer is yes we certainly are. We want the Company to survive and the support we have had so far has had a significant on cash flow and while we have this level of orders we can keep the doors open. We are still embarrassed by the delays on metal backed reels but we are making headway and most graphite reel orders have been filled. We are in negotiations with a person that is also passionate about seeing the Company survive. This is not finalized but is looking very positive. The biggest thing to make sure we survive is a steady flow of orders. This keeps our staff employed and gives some future for them and their families. The wonderful support we have had so far has been humbling and to continue we just need those orders to keep coming. It appears it has even stirred up a lot of people that have never had an Alvey before to try one and see why every one has such passionate feelings about fishing with an ALVEY Reel. It is the sheer simplicity of how the reel works, how sensitive they are to fish with and they rarely break down. Thank you again to everyone and yes please keep the orders coming. Kind regards from all the Alvey Reels Australia team at Carole Park in Queensland."

Picked-up a 650C5 and a couple of rods - nice to know I helped in their time of need. Love my current setup but am waiting for Spring to really get some beach time with it. In expressing my interest in these reels I was given an older one by a fellow fisherman - a non-castable trolling reel. I've turned that into a pier setup and have already caught fish with it. Great, bullet-proof construction and a wonderful LOUD alert mechanism. After I've had some time with my current setup I'll know which way I want to go with my next one. I'm really happy to see that they got a second wind and I hope they can find a way to keep the business afloat while keeping the quality construction and keep it made-in-Austrailia.

A June 2018 update. It is looking like that they will make it through year 98. "We are all experiencing the change in temperatures and winds. The Eastern Coasts of Australia are hoping for a great winter fishing season this year. Some great catches of Tailor are already happening on the Central NSW Coast and we are hoping they are not far off in Queensland. Most of our back orders are now cleared on reels and stocks are available from any specialist retailer in tackle. Our stocks are ready to be sent to any retailer that needs them to supply you. So good fishing and thank you from Alvey Reels for your continued support. Regards Bruce Alvey."

Aloha from Hawai'i. I am a late bloomer as far as Alvey reels are concerned being an Alvey owner and fan for just 35 years. I own about a dozen of them from a huge 650C to a tiny old antique 3 inch bakelite spool with the guide ring, and many in between including sidecasters, trolling, and fly reels. When I heard the news Alvey was closing it's doors it broke my heart but SO happy to hear Alvey is staying in business. I just may buy another Alvey reel to celebrate the good news!

Not sure about all that has occurred but, back to getting orders filled and delivered in one week. Many reel models no longer available. Shooting for that 100 year anniversary in 2020. Still looking for that reintroduction of rods.

I was informed by Alvey that, as part of their restructuring, prices will have to rise as much a 40%, until there are some reforms in the Australian tax and fee structure. I also committed to not sell my current stock back to Australian customers. Only fair for their retailers.
